Once again, Griz turn to backup QB

As Montana gets set to open Big Sky play against defending conference co-champs Eastern Washington on Saturday, head coach Bob Stitt finds himself in a familiar situation.

savannah-3142-1-940x1142Starting quarterback Reese Phillips is officially done for the year after sustaining injury to his left foot versus Savannah State last weekend, and so Stitt once again will turn to a backup to lead the team.

Two seasons ago it was Chad Chalich who was called on to replace injured starter Brady Gustafson after an injury in Game 3. By mid-October, the Griz turned to Makena Simis after Chalich, too, succumbed to the injury bug.

Last year, Gustafson was again sidelined by injury.

So on Saturday against conference powerhouse EWU, Stitt – who once converted a tight end into signal caller at Colorado School of Mines – will turn to redshirt freshman Gresch Jensen for his first start under center.
