New-look women’s rivals square off

The Montana State women’s basketball team made history last season when it swept Montana for the first Hannah-Caudill-Drivetime since 1999.

The two-game triumph marked just the fourth time MSU won both match-ups since the rivalry started in 1974, and the Bobcats went on to win the Big Sky tournament and punch their first ticket to the NCAA tournament in 25 years.

With a new head coach and the loss of its All-American forward to season-ending knee injury, the Lady Griz dropped quickly from top dog in the conference to a team that managed to pull together just three wins.

But now, as the two set to square off again Saturday in Bozeman, the squads are totally different once again – Montana State looking to recover from the loss of its two most dominant players to graduation; Montana improving from last year’s unprecedented struggles to a 5-1 league record thus far this year.
