Montana slips to No. 19 in latest poll
With a loss on the road last Saturday, the Montana football team took a short slide in this week’s edition of the FCS STATS Top 25 poll.
The Grizzlies dropped from No. 14 to 19 after falling 31-27 at Western Illinois. The team was ranked 20th in this week’s American Football Coaches (AFCA) Top 25 poll as it wrapped up it’s pre-league slate with a 2-1 record.
Montana remains one of four Big Sky Conference teams to make the FCS STATS Top 25. Eastern Washington dropped to No. 6 after falling on the road at Washington State; Weber State moved up four spots to No. 7 with a win over South Dakota; and UC Davis improved to spots to No. 21 despite a loss on the road to Stanford.
North Dakota State remains the top team in FCS football, with James Madison, South Dakota State, North Carolina A&T and Kennesaw State rounding out the top five.
The rankings are decided each week by a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries.
Montana will look to improve its ranking when it kicks off its conference schedule this week at home versus unranked Sacramento State.
